Is a '40 B supposed to have a choke cable going up to the seat. Mine doesnt and everytime you have to choke it(which is about never) you have to start it standing up? This tractor starts so easily right now, it has 12 volt and you could let it set a few months and it would fire right up but i havnt tried it in the winter. Also how many of you think i should keep the 12 volt when i restore it? I really am thinking about keeping it on there because it starts sooo soooo easy plus we dont have the generator and would have to get a new one! Well thanks in advance!!!

My front lights mount on round rod flattened at the end just like my rear light. Look in the bone yards in your area or make them yourself-shouldn't be too hard. Can buy origional lights from sites listed at YTMAG or at swap meets but they are expensive $25 to $50 each depending on condition. With the correct bulbs, $5 each from Case IH dealer, they are very bright when on high beam! Good luck. Dave BN

Thanks guys! Also, does anyone know where to get the little bar that slides into the front bracket for the front lights? Mine has an original rear light but does not have any of the front ones but it has the wiring to go to them. Thanks!!!

My 41 B is set up to crank start w/o the electric setup. The old guy I bought it off had fabbed a choke rod out of some heavy wire and had a young relative crank it while he choked it from the seat :> BTW I noticed my mounting boss for the Gen. bracket on the motor isn't even tapped bored nuthin! Right now I'm rebuilding the carb as it was not much more than a semi controlled leak> Matt

My choke rod connects to the choke shaft on the side of the carburetor nearest the engine. It runs through the opening in the air cleaner mount, then through a hanger bolted to the rear bolt under the gas tank. There is a 1 and 1/2" loop at the end that is just at the left rear corner of the battery. Pulling out on this rod closes the choke. If your engine starts good cold without choking I suspect the mixture is set too rich. Also, my engine turns over just fine with the origional 6V system. Remember, these old engines were ment to start at low RPM. Dave BN.

I have a '41 B, when I got it there was a choke rod that ran to the operator area, can't recall just where it attached. I always have to choke mine, even in summer, but by the time I walk around to the carb side, I can open the choke. I also converted mine to 12V, and unless you are going for a factory restoration, I would stick with 12V, for the reason you mentioned. I would guess there is less wear and tear with 12V, since the starter cranks for such a short time. BTW, my generator was just a mass of rust and mud when I got it, so I have run without it for over 8 years now.

Choke rod was part of the elec. starter kit. If it didn't come with elec. start, it may not have had a choke rod. Some parts can still be brought though Case IH .
