I had been plagued by a governor problem, but finally found the cure and thought I'd pass it on to you guys. It may help one of you.Whilst following the instructions for setting the governor up properly in the Ferguson manual, I noticed that the governor arm is attached to the governor shaft by a tapered set screw that had been covered in old oil and crud. On moving the mechanism by hand it was apparent that there was free play between the governor shaft and the arm, because of wear over the last 53 years - so the governor was working, but not transmitting the movement to the throttle linkage. This explained in part why the governor action was somewhat erratic, and all my adjustments had been in vain until now. Before you spend a couple of hours resetting everything on the governor, check for wear and the effects of old age/lack of maintenance. Good luck
