Should the generator be very hot to touch after the tractor (TO35) has been running for a couple hours?

Engine heat will transfer to the metal housing and make it feel hot to the touch after extended run times. It should not be too hot to lay your hand on it though. Have you oiled the bushings on each end of the generator? It only takes a few drops of oil in each cup per the maintence schedule. Too much oil is just a bad as too little, it transfers to the commutator and brushes and creates a barrier to efficient electricity conduction, this creates heat also.

Yes I did oil each end last fall, and it has very few hours on that oil. I wiil take it off & check the bearing & bushing when I get a chance. Thanks for the response.
