Gearbox oil leak

My TEA20 is losing gear oil (big time) apparently through a hole just forward of the drain plug almost immediately below the gear lever. The hole has a split pin coming out of the hole which is bent so that it cannot be pushed back in. It must have been losing oil for weeks but I park it in a dark old shed on a dirt floor. Last night it was left outside & this morning I'd say arouund half a litre or more had spilt and it was still running out in a very fine stream. Checked the dipstick and it was dry. Can anyone help please. I'm thinking it's a stuck relief or something.

Thank you.

As Todd implies, it is not the hole with the cotter pin that is the problem. (Maybe you knew that.) It is the seal inside. The hole with the cotter pin is a weep hole and is supposed to leak if the seal goes bad in order to keep the oil from building up and getting on the clutch. You will have to split the tractor, as Todd says. If you farm it out, the labor should be about $200.

I had the same problem. Read the archives on splitting the tractor. While in there replace the input shaft seal on the trans and rear main seal on the engine. I also replaced the clutch and pressure plate while I had mine apart this past winter. Todd(MI)

Thanks for your input. It's slowly lost all it's oil now!
99.9% certain it's gearbox oil. Ther's a mechanic nearby who reckons if he's fixed 1 he's fixed 50. So I'm letting him take care of it for me. (I don't have the facilities or necessary skills to do it myself).
Thanks for your help.

Brian

The hole with the split pin is the bell housing drain, to let condensation out. You have a leak on either you engine rear crankshaft seal or your gearbox input shaft seal, depending on what colour the oil is and which level is low.
