I have a TO30 and need to remove the fuel bowl assembly, drain the gas tank and re-install. It looks pretty straight forward - just unscrew it, etc. or are there some pitfalls I should be aware of?

The original fuel filter assy for the TO30 did not have the filter screen in the gas tank, but had one in the filter body. This is called a strainer. Guess they did not like the complaints of owners having to remove the whole assy from the tank to clean out any clogging. I don't think this type is available in the after market, but the screen in the tank is! And, my baffles in the tank are also loose, but will not damage the fuel filter screen as it is in the body of the filter as I described. Had a hard time finding the original one I have, but wanted the original configuration.

Thanks for straightening me out, Phil. The TE series appears to have the screen on the tank side according to my parts manual.

Just to 'muddy' the fuel discussion even further, the TE series had both the strainer in the bowl and the gauze 'filters' on the outlets in the tank - or at least that is what is on mine.

James - and HNY all.

That's what the part manual indicates, also. But in the TO-30, the "strainer is a little "stacked disc" filter not a piece of screen as the TE series has. Gosh I'm sorry for beating this one to death!

The TO-30 is a little different than what you describe,John, but nonetheless it's easy to remove after you drain the tank. Just remove the fuel line and remobve the the glass bowl and gasket and unscrew the valve assembly. They usually have a screen on them though in my case, the internal baffle on the fuel tank has broken loose (go figure!), and has sheared the screen off. That's one less clogging point to worry about. My baffle is still rattling around in there.

When I did my TED, it was just a case of unscrewing the clamp to remove the glass bowl (do not break that - spares are hard to find!!) and then I undid the two (as mine is TVO) nuts retaining the bowl and tap to the tank.

This is also a good time to clean the filters inside the tank. . . . . also, replace the fibre washers (four in my case, two per tank) that seal the connections. They never do seal right again after they have been undone a couple of times.

Here is a link to replacment sediment bowls and SO Valves. They are readily availible for several different models of ferguson tractors at this site.

Thanks for that Ed, it seems you can get hold of them easier over there than we can over here, though no doubt Sparex may start doing them soon - which is fine if you are a trade user as Sparex will not supply to individuals over here!!
