I just called my local Massey dealer to see if he had any mineral oil for my mf-35 . I want to replace contaminated oil in the rear differential and hydraulic system . He said they no longer carry it and cant get it , but I would be fine to use 90 weight oil they sell . Is this ok to use ?

Tray,

I just changed to oil in my TO-20 a few weeks ago. NAPA can get GL-1 oil for you. Save a few bucks. Massey Ferguson is now AGCO and they gouge the heck out of the unknowing consumer.

Also when you drain your oil don't forget to opperate your quadrant lever to drain the pump.(I always forget this step). If you don't drain it you still have some of the old oil in it and you will only be able to put in 20 quarts instead of the 24 quarts that is recommended.
I used to be hard core on the usage of the MF oil till I found out about NAPA.I had tried them several years ago but all I got was a blank stare when I asked for 90w Mineral base oil. They understand GL-1 though.

There is no oil held in the pump on these tractors, the only place it can hold any is in the Hydraulic Ram cylinder that actually lifts the 3 point linkage,as long as that is down it doesn't really matter where the lever is. As long as your oil is the correct GL1 grade (weight) it doesn't matter whose oil you use as long as the quality is decent.

Tray,

By-pass the MF dealer on this one. Yea they are able to get it. He just doesn't want to. But, be thankful he just saved you ~$30.00.

Call a NAPA auto parts store and tell them you want 2 buckets of 90wt. GL-1 oil. (PN: 65-205) Call do not bother to go in, as they do not usually stock it. But they can get it from the regional wearhouses in a day or two.

Why ~$30.00....
NAPA Price $24.95 (last summer)
Massey Price $37.95 (last summer)

$13.00 * 2 + tax... you can do the math.

If you are having any trouble let us know there are many sources.

Jeff

Sounds like you've been talking to my local MF dealer. Seems they can't get anything. I just went to NAPA and got the GL-1.

NAPA is the place. Walked into the nearest NAPA Store to me and said I wanted two 5-gal buckest of GL-1. He massaged his computor for a couple minutes and said, "I don't have any in stock but I will order it for you and have it tomorrow". I told hime I couldn't get back for three days and he said, "It will be waiting for you". Three days later I picked it up and it was $24.95 per Bucket. The NAPA P/N is NHF65-205. I have found everyting I nead in disposibles at either NAPA or CarQuest. The heavy stuff is usually available from the folks at YT on the left of your screen. The M/F dealers are a joke. Just my opinion for what it's worth. Give the reliable folks a try.

If you check the instruction book for the US version of this tractor it says that 90w is ok for above 50 deg and 80w below. Now that is what they say.

It needs to be to GL1 specification or Massey-Ferguson M1103...(it must have NO detergents in it, thats what all that means). and 90w is ok.

I had the same problem with M/F dealer. I checked with my local oil distributor and found three products that meet both the API GL-1 and M/F-1103 specs. They are Chevron (RPM GearOil-90), (76 Mineral Gear lube-90), and Shell (Dentax 80W-90). They were about $5.00 less than napa for A 5 gal bucket. Check the GL-1 B/4 you buy it. I hope this helps.
