newly acquired to-20. only problem is the 3pt goes real slow with a light disc and then when you put the clutch in to put in gear the 3pt goes back down.
I checked the fluid and its full. is there any way to see if someone put the wrong fluid in. can a green horn open up the casting under the seat without causing problems. any help would be much appreciated. please e mail me. Jerry Chadwick

In addition to what Phil has said, lift the implement and look for oil either squirting out or swirling around in the bottom, that will give you some idea of where the leak is. If it is in the bottom the Pump may need to come out, if it is in the top the top will need to come off, but you need to find the location of the leak first. When you locate the leak post again and tell more or email me for more detailed information on how to find a leak. Don't strip it down first though or you will never find it and you may damage something.

John[UK] I didn't have your email address.
I've taken the inspection plate off and also taken out about a gallon of fluid. the fluid looks quite dirty and is a very muddy brown color. i raised the disc up and it appears like alot of fluid is coming out of the top of the unit. there is cavity and the fluid seems to coming out in splashes. I cannot see the bottom of the unit because of the fluid. When you speed up the engine the lift works pretty well. But when you slow it down or put in the clutch it immediately goes down.
In response to reply of John[UK] to my To-20 hydraulic problem. Jerry Chadwick

Jerry,Well from what you say you do have a leak on the system and most likely it is in the top as say it splashes so it wont be something in the bottom under the oil. please drop me a line to:-
fergusontractors at tiscali dot co dot uk and I will send you the information sheet telling you what to look for in more detail. please remind me again what your problem is when you write....John

Just a quick addditional thought. You may indeed have the wrong fluid, etc., perhaps with water from condensation in it, and you may have sludge in the bottom of your reservoir, and you may want to change the fluid to the right stuff, but I doubt seriously if that is the true cause of your problem. Find the leak first, then drain the fluid, then fix the problem and replace the fluid would be my preference. Again, John can help you better than I on finding the leak.

A manual will help you much. You can open the round observation hole on the right side where the lift lever is and observe to see if oil is leaking or splashing, but don't put your hand in there. John (UK) can help you more than I, but I can tell you that there is a check valve at the bottom of the reservoir behind the pump (about $25) that can go bad and cause the problem you have, and it is pretty easy to replace, so don't go removing the pump, etc., until you check it out. As for removing the top cover, don't pull it up until you unhook the linkage inside, which you must do thru the observation hole(s), or you will break something.
