I have two TO-20's one is a 1950--the other is older I think (80,000+/- Serial#--just haven't looked up for sure yet) My 1950 has a single hole in the dash for ammeter. The other TO-20 has four holes on the dash--all are VERY neatly done and factory appearing due to their spacing and finish. My question is thus--what was the standard for instruments or was their as wide a variety in that respect as most others re:these tractors???

 Re: Gauges on Dash..TO 20/30 in reply to Doug-AL, 04-28-2006 19:50:07
Sorry to reply to my own post but some funky clues all came together a few minutes ago. I believe my "TO-20" is actually a TO-30 with a TO-20 engine. There is a stamp mark cast onto the side of the steering column/bracket that says TO-30, but the engine SN is 120, not 129. My serial number plate behind steering wheel reads "TO 84628" which would be a 1952 TO-30 SN, correct? Sorry to ramble but I was thinking out loud and looking for a little verification to my theory. I have not looked at any other ID #'s on the tractor as I rolled it off the trailer by the shed in the woods and left it there last Sat. after scavenging the fuel tank off it-- which has the inlet in the center with a brass neck and cap and the outlet/sediment bowl mount more forward than my 1950 TO-20 original tank had.

Any numbers cast into parts are only part numbers for the basic part, the fact that it says TO30 does not mean it is a TO30 as you can have the same part fitted to both tractors. It's done just to confuse you and everyone else....lol Does you tractor have the air inlet on the Dash, if it does it is a TO30 if not it is a TO20, that is possibly the easiest way to tell, of course there is always someone changing things to appear what they aren't, so beware anyway.
