Did any companies make 6 or 8 cylinder conversion kits for the ferguson TO series?? If the myth is true that the Ferguson rear end gearing is tougher than the Ford N then it seems like they would have been popular to convert also..Does the bell housing bolt pattern on the TO series match any of the other continental engines??

I think I remember reading somewhere that the Ferguson TEF rear end (Diesel) was stronger made than the TEA or TED (petrol or V.O.) engined tractors???

In the book Vintage Ford Tractors it illudes that there was a business arrangement between Ford and the Funk Brothers, were tractors, minus the engines were delevered to them for addition of the biger motors. The Funk Brothers were not buying tractors just to scrap a new engine.

Another thing, I doubt old Harry would have let anyone mess with his "perfect" Tractor.

i.e. Ferguson's ego would not allow concent to tampering with his product.

Hi Jeff.. I think that you are right on... There are other similar examples... Henry Ford, Harry Ferguson, David Brown and George Sherman were all "partners in crime" at some point along the way... Sherman designed/made many of the implements for Ferguson, Ford, and Brown and of course the famous Sherman transmissions..... Ford adopted the transmission as an official Ford part (included it in their parts books) but as far as I know, Harry did not allow this... Even though there was a special version of the Sherman trans (to preserve the gear-shift start feature) that was painted gray and installed by ferguson dealers, it was never officially added to the parts books like Ford.. Likewise with the Monroematic EZ-ride seat. YOu could get it with your new tractor (Ford or Ferguson); ford added to the parts book, Ferguson did not... The point being, that if it happened (Funk conversions), Harry never recognized it a a legitimate modification. I might also add that the Funk conversions used only Ford motors which would have been anthema to Harry by the time he and Henry split up... Jim

In the UK a lot of gas and kerosene TE-20's had 3-cylinder Perkins diesels installed when the oringinal engines wore out. These were in the region of 35hp. They have been known for snapping the half shafts in the rear axle so I don't think you'd want to send too much power down there. Hope this helps, SAm in NS

Did any companies make 6 or 8 cylinder conversion kits for the ferguson TO series?? Not aware of any... I think that they were only made for the Ford.

If the myth is true that the Ferguson rear end gearing is tougher than the Ford N then it seems like they would have been popular to convert also..
I thnk that a ferguson rearend will bolt to a Ford tranny. This would acomplish the same thing. However, "tougher" is relative... it still is not that strong...

Does the bell housing bolt pattern on the TO series match any of the other continental engines??
don't know, but the Z134 is one of the closest kin (uses many of the internal parts of the Z120 and Z129) and even it apparently will not fit...
