My TEA20 has a generator, I would like to change it to an alternator.

Can someone describe what I will have to do. Is it just a matter of changing the generator with an alternator?

My TEA20 is already 12v with negative ground.

Thanks
Boyde

The TEA was never made with a negative ground system so someone has changed it. The tractor has to be rewired if you use an alternator.
I have the wiring diagram for converting to an alternator if you need it, you can use a single wire system or the normal two wire, just say which one you need if you want it.

most who convert use the Delco 10si alternator.

WSould it be possible for you to send me both wiring diagrams. That might help me decided which way to wire the alternator in the system.

Regards

Yes I can send both diagrams, no problem, but you will have to email me at:-
fergusontractors(at)tiscali.co.uk
as I can"t send them to you on here and I don"t have your email address until you mail me. When you do mail me just tell me again what you need as I could have forgotten (like I do sometimes....lol)

Thanks.

I do not understand the what you mean when you say the "single wire system" or the "normal two wire ".

If I were to use the Delco 10si would I be using the two wire or the single wire?

Regards
Boyde

it could be either, but the usual one is single wire.
Those alternators can be wired up using a single wire or using a two wire system.

Having a 12 volt negative ground system already is half the battle won.
Most people find a GM alternator, model 10si, is the easiest way to go. They have an internal regulator and a simple 3 wire hook-up. They were used in the 1970's and 80's on many of their vehicles. You can get a rebuilt unit pretty cheap. They are very reliable. Just ask for one from a 1978 or so, number 7127.
You'll need brackets, the hardest being the pivot point, you'll have to make one to adapt to the ears on the block, where the ears of the genny fit on, and on the other side of it to match the bolt hole on the alternator. Then see if you can get away with using the slide mount on top, the arm with the slot in it. Genessee products sells kits, call them and ask. You'll find them in the articles to the left under "Research and Info".
Here's some things to help you.
