I"m starting to put together a TO-30 that has been totally disassembled. Many of the mating surfaces used paper gaskets. Are you fellows using just regular Permatex on them--both sides--
or is something else better or more universally used? Thanks for your replies. Happy 4th to you Yanks out there!

you may get quite a few different answers, there are quite a few gasket goops that will work just fine.
I usually use a regular pematex type sealer also for paper gaskets. You don't need gasket goop on all gaskets, try to avoid using goop on any part that you think you may want to remove in the future, like the carb., valve cover, etc. Oil pan, timing cover, water pump, etc. use goop.

I like the grey RTV. Tends to dry harder and leak less. Also is a pain to remove when hardened. Guess that is why Chryslur uses it on oil pans...
