I recently purchased a te-20 with serial number 337 one site tells me it was manufactured in jan of 1947. The lower hood is aluminum did they make many hoods like this thanks.

They used aluminium because there was a shortage of steel for some years, not all the tractors had them mostly they used pressed steel. Some of the first Diesels had them too and they were introduced in 1951 the use of the aluminium Hood stopped in about 52/53. Your tractor was made on the first working day of the New Year, Thursday 2nd January 1947. The Aluminium came from Canada in exchange for other goods.

Okay John, I want to know how do you know this tractor was plated on the the 2nd of January 1947?

or are you going by there were 20579 TE's produced in 1947, which is roungly 400 a week, or 80 per day and as SN 337 was the 22nd tractor produced in 1947 then it must have been on the 1st day of work in 1947?

Either way it is an early one.

Because I have a list of the serial numbers and some dates (incomplete) Production rates varied at certain times of the year, it wasn't constant so you cant do it that way. Oh ye of little faith as if I would give you a load of old rubbish and not only the true facts...John

My '48 TE has an aluminum in the hood also. SN 40900's

My 1947 TE had aluminium sides on the bottom edge of the bonnet as well.
