Can anyone tell me what implements would make use of the "Ground Speed" PTO position as opposed to the "Engine Speed" position? I understand what the benefits of the latter are and what it is used for, however I just can't come up with a benefit or use for the "Ground Speed" position.

I used the ground PTO just yesterday on a Ferguson hay rake.

It also works great for getting a PTO post hole digger unstuck. I"ve unplugged a cornpicker by using ground PTO and backing up.

I think it was a great idea, and don"t know why more manufacturers didn"t pick up no it.

The "Ground Speed" PTO was fitted for driving some Hay rakes and Wheel drive trailers and Fertiliser Spreaders, not a lot of use was made of this and eventually it was deleted on the 135 series (I think) the PTO shaft turned one revolution for every 19" of forward or reverse travel, so you did have to disengage it on some machines as they did not like to be run in reverse. Really you should disregard it, most other people have, it was one of those things that never quite worked out...John

The manual that fits my '68 MF-135 says ground speed is one revolution for approximately 20" of tractor movement. Surely it depends on the tractor rear tire sizes.

It mentions being used for hay rake and lister planter application and has a big warning about not backing up with it engaged in case the implement doesn't want to be run backwards.

Hay rake. Some sort of PTO driven planter perhaps. Its not heavily used but is hand when it is.

Its also bidirection so backing up, it might unplug something occasionally.
