On my '57 Fergeson T-35 it seems to be leaking water from right behind the fan. Is this some kind of gasket? Will a pressure test of the radiator (like I've read about in searching this discussion board) tell me where the leak is? Should I pull off the radiator and have a look? This is all new to me...got the tractor 5 yrs ago and am not too mechanically minded. Thanks

If you get hold of the fan blades and see if they move back and forwards, even slightly...I don't mean round and round. If they do move then it is the water Pump. You can get one from this site, if you need help with it, email me....John

By "water", I hope you actually mean coolant? Remember, this tractor requires a 50/50 mix of green ethylene glycol antifreeze and clean water. If you use plain water in it, you are asking for leaks, plugged up coolant passages, internal rust, and other maladies. I have heard some folks say its ok to use plain water in an older vehicle or piece of equipment because they don't get as hot as a newer one. Wrong answer!! The aforementioned problems can and will occur in any liquid cooled engine that does not have the proper coolant. You probably already know this stuff, but I wanted to make sure. When I bought my TO-35 last April, it had rusty water in the engine and a leaking water pump gasket. Good luck.

If it's "right behind the fan" it must be the water pump. The seal is probably worn. You can get a rebuilt one at this site or from NAPA etc. You'll hav e to drain the coolant out of the radiator and water jacket, remove the belt and fan, and then remove the pump itself.

Thanks for the advise. I got the radiator off and the fan and I got the bolts off(phew!) that hold the water pump on but have not been able to get the water pump off. Will try again tomorrow or whenever time allows. Sort of need the tractor NOW since I'm pulling winter wood out of the woods.
