Hello everyone! I recently removed and cleaned all fuel injectors in my TO-35 Standard diesel hoping to correct smoking (white smoke) and rough operation problems. After installing injectors I checked operation with no improvement. Removed injectors again and found 1 with either a broken or burnt off needle valve tip. Also all had heavy carbon deposits. I replaced the bad nozzle and again checked the operation. It continued to run rough and smoke excessively. I removed injectors and found the new nozzle and a second one with needle valve tips missing. I'm not sure at this point what the problem is; Please help.

It does seem as though the valves are in need of attention from how you describe the white smoke. Have the injectors been set to 135 atms initially, this will allow them to settle down to 130 atms.
Regarding the Pintaux nozzles breaking off, if your engine is numbered above SJ86045E, it should have a heat shield washer under the injector, this will lift the injector slightly and stop any damage to the nozzle.
Check the fuel pump timing, it should be 13 deg BTDC. Turn the engine until it is coming up to compression on number 1 and insert a 1/4" round rod in the timing hole on the left side rear mounting flange of the cylinder block, when it drops into the hole in the flywheel the setting is 16 deg. remove the plate on the side of the fuel pump held on by two screws and you should see the timing mark "G", this has to correspond with the timing mark scribed on the circlip inside. It is important that you turn the engine clockwise when you do all this so that you will keep tension on the timing chain and the pump drive. If you miss the hole with the rod in the flywheel you will need to turn the engine over two complete turns to get back to the correct point. If the engine still doesn't run as it should, email me and tell me what it is doing and what you have done and I will send out the Pump timing spec. so that you can adjust it more closely. Some engines require more advance than others...John

First of all what opening pressure did you set them to? When you check for white smoke black smoke take the exhaust manifold off and see which hoes it comes out. Another thing white smoke like you describe is normally a sign of low compression. J.
