I am getting what I think is some diesel fuel in the oil of my 971. About 2 years ago I had new seals put in my injection pump. That didn't seem to help it any, but I tightened the connections on the return line under the valve cover and it stopped for a while. I think this return line may be my problem. Today I plan to apply some air pressure and see if that line is the problem. Doing a search I found part number 311412. Is that the correct part number for the bleed off line under the valve cover? I have been told it is available and around $100. My tractor is serial number 104,000 and was built in Dec. 1959

B.Jones, thanks much for the kind words. I've been in the parts business since 1962, dealer, wholesale, or some form, traveled 5 different states and listened to a ton of problems. I think I was in Alabama and a gentlemam talked about clearing right of ways for a utility company using the 801 diesels, new tractors at the time, but worked very hard and were breaking cranks. They decided fuel in the oil was the problem and started changing oil every morning before work, no more crank trouble...thanks again, Kelly.

Mr. Jones, I think you are on the right track. Leak back line is 311412 and list is $88.00. I always install brass washers on the top and bottom of thse lines. Parts catalog only shows them on top. Also, some of these sealing washers are no longer flat, especially the lines at the pump, they are slightly cupped. the cup shape will go down on your application, plus don't overtighten as these cup washers will break...thanks, Kelly.
