My mother-in-law Has a 801 powermaster. Its a great old tractor, but it is in need of a new battery. It is a easy starting tractor so I am not thinking about changing it over to a 12 volt system. I don"t know anything about 6volt batteries. Where do I find them and what information do they need from me?

Just a added note. No matter how many CCA or the size, if it isnt a tractor battery it probably voids the warrenty to put it in one. It is a reason to use the JD or other tractor rated batteries. I am not an engineer or profess any knowledge except trial and error. I put several "car" batteries from the discount store in over the years, replaced to soon. Then bought tractor rated from tractor dealer and no more early replacements. My 2 cents

You all have made a believer out of me. I am off to the John Deer dealer for my battery. Thanks to all who have responded to my posting.

John, I have a 861 show tractor that I have turned down a solid offer of $13,500.00. I would rather push start it than install a John Deere battery. Also, I don't care who made the battery if your starter is bad (550 amp draw max) it still won't start.

BigJohn..... ..seriously, gitta real 6-volt tractor battery. The internal guttz are made justa little stronger to withstand the off-pavement world of real tractors. This may seem blasphemous, but I recommend John Deere 6-volt batterys. Actually cheaper than the "DieHard" which die-eazy.

I also use John Deere 12-volt batterys on my dual-battery Dodge Cummins Diesel pick'em-up. 1/2 price of Dodge Dealer replacement batterys. They even have water holes.

Always agood practice to re-polarize yer electrical system when you re-install a new battery, or genny, or voltage regulator, or ennytime you think yer haffin' electrical problems. Check yer Ford owners manual or I&T FO-20 manual for polarizing instructions.

Remember, the 6-volt Fords came from the factory POSITIVE GROUND.

Remember the 6-volt MANTRA: "keep'em clean, brite'n'tite"..... ....Dell

I don't have much luck at the new stores run by kids . Check with the old reliable auto parts stores in your area . Its just a regular 6v battery . It'll have 3 caps on the top . Ken

John, your 801 uses a group 1 6 volt battery. I would buy the highest cca (cold cranking amp)battery I could find. Tractor Supply close?
