I have a 1964 Ford 4000 (4130) utility industrial tractor. I lost oil pressure without noticing till she seized. She unseized by herself and resarted. No oil pressure on guage. I removed oil pan and pump. Ordered new pump. Is there any other symptom I should look for or is the pump the usual culprit. Crankcase was full, winter wheight oil. Should I check any thing for damage or just hope for best?

Bill,

A sort of common occurance is to have the oil pick up tube crack or wear a hole in it then suck air. Check the oil lines real close and around the head. You can still get the lines from FNH.

I checked 3 of the bearings today. They looked ok except they were worn to the .003 clearance. I ordered new main and rod bearing sets. They were standard size. probably original. I ordered the same. the crankshaft surfaces looked ok. Any tricks I should be aware of with Installation? I also checked the pick up tubes with compressed air. No leaks

Would I be correct to assume I can disconnect the connecting rods and main bearings from underneath, examine and check clearance? Anything in particular to look for such as scratches, out of round, excessive wear? Also, is there anything else other than the oil pump that might have caused me to lose pressure?

If it ran long enough to seize; I would suspect you have ruined the crank bearings; OR at least passed the point of putting it back together without checking them.

If you ran it to the point it locked up I would bet you hurt the crank and rod and main bearings. I would not try to run it again till you looked all of them over real good. If you don't you stand a very good chance at throwing a rod out the side of the engine and then you will just have a large boat achor
