Yes its a 1973 dexta made in England, and should the tap be running the whole time while the tractor is on?

The tap should not be running at all. It is meant for draining the cooling system during repairs and such. The production of Fordson Dexta was stopped in 1964 as well as all the Fordsons. The following Ford 1000-series models were called Dexta, Major, etc. Is your tractor a FORD 2000 Dexta or FORD 3000 Super Dexta? If it is FORDSON, you have the wrong year for sure. You could tell us the serial number of your tractor and people in this board will tell you the correct year.

WHy does the tap keep runing then? could this be why the engines water pump is not working? Ok i will get the serial number sometime today, where is it Located on the tractor again? on a website i found it told me my tractor was a 1973 Fordson Dexta.

There is probably some rust or scale caught in the tap,you should be able to unscrew it from the block and try cleaning it.Or you can just buy a new one.How does your engine even run for any lenght of time without the waterpump working? When sitting on the tractor,on wich side is the injectionpump mounted? On a fordson dexta it would be on the left, they used a perkins engine. On the later ones(from 1965 on)they had the ford "BSD"engine, the pump would be on the right.I know that ford called the newer tractors "dexta" for the ones sold in britain for awhile, but not till 73.To find the serial#,it depends;on the dexta it would be on the left near the fuelfilter on the flange of the bellhousing; It is handstamped vertically and very hard to read.On the'BSD"machines it would be on the right near the starter on a flat area on the bellhousing,or assuming your tractor is all original it would also be on the inside of the hood, there should be a tag there with numbers on it

I have prevously ran the engine for about 1 hour and only the top of the radiatior gets hot not anyware else, maybe this is normal. When sitting on the tractor the injection pump is on the left. I have the numbers off the tractor they may be somewat wrong as the tractor was spray painted a few years ago by a previous owner. On the right side from the seat there is 2 numbers down beside the gear leavers, the top one reads 957E7 then i think a figure that looks like a Q then wat looks like a 65. Blew then is a nother number reading: H243. There is a number stamped on the engine under the fuel filter it is 2GKHi373. Then beside the tap that wont stop dripping water is a stamped upside down 34.Then on to the right and behind the simms pump, is a stamp saying NONOCYL well it looks something like that. this is also printed in front of the injectors. Please help once again.

In case you still want to know;957E is the prefix for the dexta, the # you see below the shifter is probably 957E7005,my 61 dexta has the same #there,it's the casting# for the transmissionhousing, not the serial#,to find it,look on the left side of the tractor on the flange of the clutchhousing where it bolts to the engine, near the fuelfilter. It's read vertically and very hard to make out!The engine will have a 7 digit # handpunched below the exhaustmanifold. If your radiator only gets hot near the top,I'd suspect it might be plugged with the same stuff that makes THAT tap leak. But that depends on how much difference in temp there is between the top and the bottom,if the bottom stays icecold, definetly it's plugged,if it gets a little warm it might be normal,if the tractor isn't worked very hard.Have a good one!

Its ok i think i found out now that it is a 1958 dexta, but could u just verify this, if u find the serial number. Also totalyy off the question that was origanly put up, i need to replace the oil in the rear axle and gearbox where do i drain them? also the manual says to use 90w in both, but i have heard of the fordson crunch which should i use
