Hi, I'm wondering if anyone can help me out here?

I grew up learning to drive on a Fordson Major. It's still parked up at my Dad's farm in the headrow. I beleive it was a 1947 or there abouts and it looks from the photo that I took to be a Model P30N ??? Does this sound right?

It looks just like a diecast E27N that I was lucky to find. The above mentioned tractor was purchased new by Grandfather in Canada, I believe around 1947-48.

I'd appreciate it if anyone could tell me a little more about it?

I beleive the 30 designates the horsepower I'm not sure about the P or the N?

Thanks, Randy.

Randy

There is no such thing to my knowledge of a P30N and I have just checked al by books and can find no refrence. I belive the tractor you speak of is a E27N. "E" stands for England, "27" for hp and "N" is the letter used by Ford all over the world to designate tractors. (9N, 2N, 8N, E1ADDN etc).

E27N's with the perkins 40hp engine were still called E27N.

Hi.

I always thought that E27N stood for:

E = Evolution
27 = 27 HP
N = Derirative from the Standard N which the E27N is based on as it uses essentially the same engine block radiator core and castings, fuel tank, only the gearbox was fiddled with and the rear axle was completely new from the N. These were also called the "High Majors"

You may be right. I have seen no documentation to back up my statments, I just worked it out based on my knowledge of Ford part numbers.

The later english fordsons were E1ADKN, E1ADDN and E1ADN. My Ford parts book states "E" is for country of origin. US parts never define country of origin, they tend to define decade, year, application and part number. Example B7N 1234 A. This would be a 1957 tractor part. They define N as tractor. "N" also carrys over to the world series tractor part numbers. As I know 27 is for hp I assume England 27hp Tractor to translate to E27N.

I must also point out that ford uk use number "9" to define tractors but this prefix was only used on Dextas.
