I have inherited a 1918 Fordson Motor tractor that is in running condition. I'm trying to find a good venue of possibly selling the tractor and since I've been told that it's the oldest running Ford tractor in the US, I'm not sure the best place to go that specializes in antique tractors so that it will go to a good owner. (It belonged to my Great Grandfather.) Any information would be appreciated.

Selling privatly may be your best bet of this tractor going to a good home as YOU can control the buyer. There are a few real good consignment auctions accross the US. One big one here in PA is held the last Thur. & Fri. in February. This is Beiler's Auction and most years this auction draws people from all accross the eastern US and has alot of great old tractors. Also, I belong to a Ford and Fordson club with many members that would love to give a 1918 fordson a good home. Importantly, are you sure it is a 1918? Being sure it is a 1918, and even how early in 1918 it was made is very important to its value. Three quick checks, an original 1918 would have 6 spoke rear wheels, and the sides of the radiator would have 4 rectangular holes cast into them, and the coil box on the left side of the tractor would have a switch on it and be mounted with little cast iron brackets. Do you know what the serial number is? The serial number is located between the first exhaust port and the first intake port on the right front corner of the engine block. If you would like help determining if this tractor is indeed a 1918 and when in 1918 it was produced I would be glad to help. A few pictures and a few specific questions is all it would take. Not to bum you out, but a man in Ohio has one of the experimental "x-series" Fordsons from mid 1917 completely restored and running making it the earliest running Fordson in the US (in fact this tractor is not even named as the name "fordson" was not used on any of the real early tractors) -Steve
