My JD 316 (Onan powered) refuses to start when hot, ignition related? The other problem I'm having is the PTO won't re-engage if I shut it off then try to turn it back on when hot. The two problems are probably unrelated? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Ken - If you go to the link below, and click on FAQs, you'll find information on how to adjust the air gap on the pto clutch. That may or may not resolve the engagement problem, but it's worth a shot.

As far as not starting when it's hot, that sounds typical of a weak coil. Check the resistance with an ohm meter across the two small terminals. You should get a reading of 3.9-4.7 ohms when the coil is cool (68* F).

Then measure the resistance across the spark plug wire terminals. You should get a reading of 12.6-15.4 K-ohms, again when the coil is cool.

If either reading is outside of the specified range, the coil is bad.

Good luck. - Dave

yes, the air gap will cure the engagement. should be about .012-.015 inch. and as dave said, the module will cause the engine starting problem. also try cleaning the stator assy. good luck.
