I hope someone can tell me what I am missing here. I have a 22 Hp intek in a troybilt tractor. It has about 40 hours on it. It had an oil leak so I removed the engine. I cleaned it up and found the lower seal leaking. I didn't have time to repair it right now so I put it back together. By mistake I connected an unused wire having 12 volts to the coil grounds and fried both coils. I bought two new ones and replaced the diodes in the wire for them. Now it still won't start. I have power to the float bowl solenoid and it's functioning (whatever it does. I disconnected the grounds from the coils and I have spark. I sprayed carb cleaner down the intake. I get a backfire through the carb every now and then with the cleaner but nothing else. I had the motor on it's side while looking for the leak. What could I have done? Thanks Bob

Sure you have the right coil connected to the right sparkplug. This is a V twin is it not.

The coils are the same however they do have a top and bottom. It says "side toward cyl" and "this side out" I believe. I didn't realize this when I removed them but I looked at the old ones and they seemed to be installed per the writing. Thanks, Bob

Got it running! Just for anyone info, here's what happened. When I applied 12 volts to the coils, it burned up two diodes in the ground wires for the coils. I had replaced them with some larger 5 amp ones that I had assuming larger would be better. Well, after some troubleshooting, I found that the diodes were allowing the coils to electrically connect themselves by the ground wire. They had about 60k ohms between them. I replaced them again with some smaller 1 amp diodes and everything is fine now. Thanks Bob
