I have both for my jd 300,a 49 single & a 44 2 stage. The two stage throws snow farter in all snow condions.
the single stage does not work well with powder but works well with the heavy wet stuff. Both clear the drive before the hyd.are warm enough to lift the bucket on my farm tractor.
Get a 2 stage
Al

Blowin'

The difference between a single stage and a two stage is great. 1.The 2 stage has a greater throwing distance because of the increase in rpm in the second stage.
2.The 2 stage will handle greater amounts of snow because the first set of augers breaks up the snow better.
3.The single sstage blower is still good if it is all you have.

My preference is the 2 stage

Two stage is preferable, but single stage can get the job done. Have had one on a JD 140, used it for over 30 years. In good conditions, the snow goes up, comes down in next county! Just don't blow into the wind! Seriously, a single stage running fast enough will handle most snow adequately. My best advantage is that it is on a hydrostatic tractor, and I can regulate speed to keep blower loaded to optimum loads under varying depth conditions, such as after drifting takes place.

In my own limited experience,I like a single stage.I have two different ones mounted on Bolens tractors. One is rusty and in need of a paint job.It works so-so.The other,I cleaned and painted with rustoleum. It throws the snow about twice as far as the other one.No plugging in the chute either.Gotta paint the other one when I get a chance.

I have just recenty ran a single stage snow blower on a old 607? club cadet. It would of probably did ok if i did not have problems with the snow chains, and if it had a good belt. Stay tuned, i just got a 2 stage for another tractor, should finish the install on it tomorrow

I had both walk behind single which threw the snow good enouth if that what you have but the 2 stage is the better one of the both cause it throws the snow alot better this winter i had a husky rider 15 hp with 48 inch cut 2 stage and it work alot better and fastter
