I have a tooth missing on the flywheel of this tractor and it destroys the plastic bendix on the starter. Do they make a metal bendix for these starters? Don't want to replace the flywheel, unless it's absolutely necessary; only one tooth missing.

Any advice will be appreciated!

Robert

Had the same problem with my Dad's Craftsman 15 OHV. You can get a replacement ring gear from Sears. Didn't cost an arm and leg as I remember and it was fairly easy to replace. New one was cast aluminum. The root problem on his machine was valve clearance causing the compression release to not work, causing excessive starting torque, damaging the ring gear and bendix.

No,metal starter gear would tear the rest of teeth off fly wheel.
