My brother just bought this mower. It is a used 99 model. It ran fine at the dealer. It mowed fine and the engine ran good. I hauled it from IN to MO to deliver it for him and now it will not start. It back fires and spits gas out the exhaust. If you have any ideas on what to look at, please help. I have messed with the old cub cadet some didn't know where to start on this thing. It looks like it has a fuel pump.
Thanks for any help.

Thanks for all the advise. I agree that it probably has gas in the oil. I had that problem with my Cub lowboy 154. Didn't think about that. My brother decided to take it in to have it looked at. I had looked at shutting the gas off before hauling it. It didn't have a shut off at all.

its almost certainly because of not shutting off the fuel while transporting it. every bump can make the float bounce a little, letting in more fuel. change the oil, change the filter if it has one, remove the spark plug and ground the wire. spin the engine to clean out the gas. use a new plug, and be sure to change the oil again after a short running time, the gas will thin it out bad. i'd change the air filter too.

your crankcase may have filled with gas. these plastic float engines need to have the gas turned off while transporting ,the bounceing lets gas thru and it ends up in the crankcase.
