My briggs twin piston motor lost compression on one cylender. I pulled off the head and found the valve seat was loose and somtimes fallen right out of its place. My question is this. How can I tighten up the valve seat. It wants to slip right out of its place.

Thanks in advance
Mark

One of two ways, take out the valves, set the seat back in the block and use a center punch peen the block around the seat in three places, 2 o'clock, 6 o'clock and 10 o'clock position. If that tightens the seat enough to stay in, take a flat drift punch and peen the block over the seat to hold it in. If when you peen it in with a center punch in the three places, and the seat will not stay in, then go to a machine shop and see if they can get you an oversize valve seat, if they cannot, then a new short block is the onyl answer. If you go to briggs websight I think you can download a manual, and it also will explain the process with pictures.

The seat should be reground with a piloted valve seat grinder, after being staked into place.
