My onan 18 has a oil leak on right side of engine. Thought is was filter , but wasn't. If anyone might know where it could be coming from, I would appreciate the help.

I've experienced oil leakage at both places, the oil sending unit and the oil filer base. (B43E engine - you didn't say whether or not it was the B43 or the P series). If you find out that it is the gasket , not the sending unit, make sure to follow the instructions in the technical manual when replacing the gasket for the oil filter base. You MUST use thread sealant on the top cap screw. This tapping passes completely through the casting. I use non-hardening sealant, like permatex #2.

My 318 did the same thing. The oil filter screws onto an adapter that is bolted to the block and the gasket between the adapter and block was leaking - slinging oil all over the place. Cant remember how the adapter was bolted on, it has been awhile and have since retired the 318.

Tom - crazylunker hit on one of the most common oil leak issues on the Onan engines. If that is indeed the sorce of the leak, when replacing the sending unit, take care not to overtighten the new one. Many times, people overtighten the replacement, and crack the internal seal in the unit. - Dave
