Can someone tell me if an electric pto will engage with the power on but the tractor not running? I am getting 12 volts to the pto coil. I am trying to determine if the pto works. Thanks

Thanks to everyone for their advice and help. After removing the PTO and jumping it directly off the battery I have come to the conclusion that it does in deed work. I have since re-installed it and I can see, hear, and feel it working. The true test will be when I get my snowthrower attached. There does not seem to be a whole lot of adjustment. I need to purchase a manual. Does anyone have one for a 1000? Thanks again.

Manuals are availabe from your local CC Dealer, CC's web site, most Case-IH Dealers, and several online Dealers to include Binder's Books.

If you actually have 12 Volts at the clutch coil, whether through the tractor's electrical system, or a jumper wire, it should make a distinct "click", and the pulley should be locked to the engine, so if you turn the pulley by hand, the engine will turn along.

For safety, remove and ground spark plug wire(s), so there's no chance of the engine firing while you're messing with the clutch.

In 1976, Cub Cadet was producing their "Quietline" series. The wiring on the QL's was so that you could NOT start the cub with the PTO in the "on" position. However, with the motor off, and the PTO "on" you could here it engage (or click).
