My 18.5hp twin cyl briggs & stratton-- got it mostly apart but there are 2 bolts behind the fly wheel that I can't get off. Is there a special tool, or should I remove something else to get to it?

If you have all the sheet metal off and still can"t get to it you may have to remove the flywheel.

like david suggested get a flywheel puller.its the best and safest way to keep from messing up the flywheel.but whatever you do dont beat on that flywheel.it could cause the magnets to break loose out of the flywheel.those pullers are not expensive and they sure save you a headache later. don

You will have to take the big nut off the center and then use a puller on the two holes provided for it. Then you may have to give the crankshaft a light tap to break it loose. If you can make by heating, grinding or bending a wrench to fit I'd do that first but it isn't a big deal getting the flywheel off really.

No, the big thing is getting the flywheel nut back on tightly! When you go to pull the flywheel with a puller, be sure to put the nut back on, just screw it down so that it is flush with the top of the threads! This will prevent any mushrooming of the crankshaft threads, and won't prevent the loosening of the flywheel! After you reinstall the flywheel and nut and washer, tighten the nut good and tight!
