To bleed out air, Jack the rear wheels off the ground (both of them, and put it on jack stands. Block the front wheels with blocks so the tractor can't move.

Then, with the engine running, run the forward and reverse lever in each direction for several minutes each way, and watch the fluid level in the reservoir. The tires will turn if you have the transaxle in Hi or Low, so be careful. You can do this with it in Neutral, and they shouldn't turn. Keep the reservoir at least half full (just don't let it get empty). Once the level remains constant, stop and fill the reservoir so it is 1 or 2 inches below the top of the tank.

You might want to join the Case Garden tractors group on Yahoo (free). There is a lot of informative members, and also manuals and other info in the files section. My two tractors are both a little jerky with the lever. They always have been. Someone on the group may be able to hepl you with correcting that issue. I just got use to with mine, and learned to make small adjustsment with the handle. Any slight adjustment on the handle will affect the drive speed. Its more noticeable when in High range.
