Adding fluid to a Ford LGT 145 hydrostatic transax

I have a Ford LGT 145 (I think it's the same as the Jacobsen GT 14). The hydrostatic works but it makes a noise similar to a power steering pump that's low on fluid. Needless to say I drive it as little as possible right now even though it's not very bad.

I would like to know what kind of hydraulic fluid it takes and where to find the correct orifice to add fluid.

Thanks much!

I also own a Ford LGT 145 lawn tractor. You can get the correct hydraulic fluid at any New Holland dealer. You need New Holland 134 for the hydrostatic transmission. If you look at the back of your tractor you will see a plug screwed into the rear of the differential housing. It is about 9" up in the center. The fluid should be just high enough so it starts to run out of this hole. A few inches above this plug there is a breather which can be removed with an open end wrench. You can use that hole to add the new fluid. I don't know if you are aware of the fact that the hydrostatic transmission also has a oil filter which should be changed occasionally. It is located just ahead of the rear axle up under the front end of the transmission. It has two lines attached. The correct filter is Fram P16590E or New Holland 235115. I got mine from my New Holland dealer. I hope this information will help. Good luck.
