I would like to know if there are any major differences between the 322 and 318, besides the engine. And also, is the yanmar gas engine more reliable than the onan?

The functionality is exactly the same. In my opinion, the gas Yanmar is far superior to the Onan. Due to the life expectancy of the yanmar, it is double that of the Onan. Also, I have seen more onans develop oil leaks.

Is the yanmar engine a liquid cooled 3-cyl, and the onan a 2-cyl air cooled engine?

Yes, and both are gas powered. Don"t shy away from the 318 it is an excellent machine. If the engine craps out many repower options are available unlike the Yanamar. Gary

Just my opinion. If both were low hr machines similar condition. Same money The 322 SHOULD last you longer. A repower 24hp Honda for the 318 runs around $1,600. Various options that are/were available can add significantly to the value of each machine. You have to look at each deal all the way around. The main concern with the Yanamar is the maintenance of the cooling system. Auxillary components for the Yanamar may be more expensive(waterpump alternator starter etc)
