It would be a Handiman R/T, made from 1938 till the war, and the only model Handiman made post war. Go to www.handimantractor.com for more info.

Never heard of Sears having a riding mower in the 30s - just the two-wheel Handiman tractors. What model riding tractor do you have and what engine does it have on it?

It was bought by my uncle in 1938. It is not a mower. The engine is a one cyclinder briggs and stratton. Not sure if it is a 7 or 12 horse. It has a plow and culivator and a snow plow. Any info is greatly appreciated.

From 1939-41 Sears did indeed sell a four wheeled version of the Handiman two wheeled tractor. It used the same transmission and engine as the two wheeled tractor. There are photos in the gallery section of this website.

As far as I know, Sears did not sell any four-wheel tractors with small engines in the 30s. Circa 1932 Sears sold the "Bradley General Purpose" tractor with a four-cylinder engine. Sears also sold kits at the time to convert Ford Model Ts into tractors. In 1938, Sears came out with their "New Economy" tractor that was powered by a used Ford Model A engine. Again, the only tractors that Sears sold (that I know of) in the 30s with small, single-cylinder engines, were were the Handiman two-wheeled. They came out circa 1930 and used Briggs & Stratton engines.
