I am having a problem with the transmiission I quess. After you run it for awhile it won't back up, just sits and whines. Also on steep parts of the yard it won't go forward either. Any Suggestions?

The transmissions aren't that hard to work on. They are relatively easy to take off of the mower and aren't that complicated inside. I've had a couple of them apart. Nothing is terribly difficult on them to figure out. If you think you can handle it I would go for it yourself.

I put a brand new belt on and it is tight. As far as linkage ajustment, I think that they are ok. The tractor has about three hundred hours on it,and the manual says any transmission problems take back to the dealer, but I can't see 85.00 an hour if I could fix myself.

Is the belt tight for the transmission?????
If the longer you run it the worse it gets a lot of whinning nosiey drive petels harder to push than usual
If so its had it
If you pull heavy loads or got a lot of steep hills its worn out
LT180s have a light duty hydro
Ive got a good used one if you need one Email me if interested

Boy, it does sound like a worn out hydro problem, but I wouldn't think so on a tractor that new. Many seem to be giving out on the 25 year old tractors. Are you sure all the control linkages are adjusted properly? I've tried with some success, putting heavier oil in badly worn hydro units. It sure helps but i don't know yet for how long. Be careful though, for on many of the units there are separate compartments for hydro fluid and differential fluid. I don't know if the LT180's have separate compartments or not.
