Im in the process of rebuilding my 18 hours OHV engine. Briggs. When adjusting the intake and exhaust valves where does the piston position need to be for both of those?

Thank you,

Is that an Intek or Vangard? Or something else. On the Intek"s there"s a compression release at TDC so if you set the valves right at TDC, it won"t crank past compression. You need to go about 1/4 turn past TDC COMPRESSION STROKE on the Inteks.

On single cyl 18 hp briggs recommends setting rocker clearance on both valves when piston past TDC & piston at 1/4" into it's downward travel, this way both pushrods on low spots of cam, also don't mixup pushrods, alum rod on intake valve, steel on exhaust.

Double check that. At least SOME get set with the piston a certain measured distance from TDC.
