Hi everyone:

I have a Dixie Chopper with a 20 horse Kohler vertical shaft engine. The engine as new in 2004. This weekend while mowing I notice that when is is in heavy grass and pulling hard the engine cuts out and lack pawer. When in short grass or with the blade disengaged it purrs like a kitten. Anyone have any ideas what would make it cut out while pulling?

El Toro is probably right about lean fuel supply, one other thing you could check,if eng m/mv or cn/cv series, some of these eng had a hi temp sw,from parts list I have, looks like it is mounted under a head bolt with 1 wire going to it,try disconnecting wire, see if this helps or cures problem, you may have a multi problem, lean fuel supply, restricted cooling, part going bad on tractor or deck, and overloading eng when you go into high grass, especially if grass damp/wet and high.

Your fuel filter may need replacing, it could be starving the engine for fuel when under heavy load. If the carburetor has a main jet adjusting screw it may need to be opened some. Hal
