I have a 18 hp v twin briggs in my racin mower, Im not sure of the serial number. But it wont shut off when runnin lol. I replaced the key switch and the coil. That worked for a bit and then it started acting up again. I found something wasnt plugged in so I plugged it in and then it would shut off when u turn the key off. But now theres nothing unplugged but it wont shut off unless u disconnect the plug wires. I dont know whats wrong now.

Disconnect kill lead,at ign sw,with ign sw off, check from ign terminal to dash AND body of sw with ohmmeter or powered test lite, reading should be 0 ohms or you should get a light, you may have rust or paint between sw body & dash or a bad ign sw,also check for continuity between battery neg & dash where ign sw mounted, you may have a loose or high resistance connection between dash & chassis,if all of above checks out best guess is you have a bad wire terminal somewhere in harness.Try this, locate & disconnect ign kill lead where it exits eng, start eng, ground kill lead to eng with a jumper,if eng dies, problem in wiring harness or on tractor,if eng doesn't die, problem on eng(bad terminal on wire, loose connection at coil,or possible broken wire between tab on coil & windings inside coil)
