I was getting ready to order some points, etc. for my 318. The tag says serial # is M00318X113897 but the parts book lists them starting at 222001 in 1983. Can anyone clue me in here. The machine and tag are in excellent condition. I think I bought it from the original owner. Thank you for any help.

Here's a useless piece of trivia for you. Your machine was built on Tax Day 1992. April 15th.

I hope they don't try to sell you points, it's electronic ignition.

Thank you. Judging from the ser.# info I figured it might be. Is there any adjustments other than new plugs? In a previous post I mentioned the extremely hard starting. I have put in a new fuel pump.

If you go to the link below, and check out "318" in the "model info" section, it appears the serial numbering started over again in 1990, at 10,001.

It looks like yours, serial # 113897, is a 1992.

Bob is correct on the serial numbers starting over.
