Dan: I found your mower in book 150 Years of IH. The picture isn't clear enough to give specifics. What he does say is the 25 had a plain lift while 25V had a vertical lift. I would have thought any lift of a mower would be vertical. The mower pictured is 25V, mounted on a Farmall M. I can see what appears to be a hand lever between operator and right rear wheel, coming from mower. These mowers were introduced in 1940 and by 1950, 193,000 had been sold. This mower also has a rear caster wheel. I think caster wheel was on both.

I may be wrong, but I think the difference between plain lift and vertical lift is that the plain would pick up the cutterbar but leave it horizontal, and the vertical lift would also stand up the cutterbar.
