I have found an old Papec chopper on a steel wheel cart, it is pulled by a large belt pulley and looks like it was set up in one place and the corn stalks brought to it and fed in by hand to chop silage. I was wondering the worth of it. Its in good condition, you can still read the writing on it.Thanks, Keith

Around here they were called ensilage cutters or silo fillers. We used to use one to chop and blow alfalfa hay into the haymow.Hauled the hay to it on a buckrake or hay wagons and pitched it in with pitchforks.

If around Amish area they are still in demand for use, have a friend that has one and hires a tractor to run it every year to fill his silo

I"m in North Georgia. Was just passing by going to a job and saw this chopper sitting by a house,I was interested in the steel wheel cart but hated to buy it and junk the chopper, it still looks pretty good. He wants $200 for it, thought I might go back and offer $150, he wouldnt take $100.

You are right- they were set by the silo or pile, and bundles from the corn binder were brought to them. I saved one from the junk man a few years ago with one bid of five dollars. Worth much more, but it's all where you find them. Most were out of use here by the mid 50s.
