Lost a light bulb on the 6 volt to 8 volt conversion. Go to Radio Shack & purchase #276-1661 diodes (6 amp size). These are in a 4-pack for $2.49. Use three 6-amp diodes in series for each 6-volt bulb. No matter if a small bulb or headlight, the diodes drop about 8/10s volts each for a total drop of 2.4 volts. For taillights, one set of three can operate two taillight up to 6 amps current draw. Most headlights use 4 amps, thus three diodes per each headlight are required. Make sure the diodes are pointing in the right direction. The diodes have a stripe around the 1/4" diameter plastic body close to one lead. For positive ground it looks like this: light this side... x--[ I]--x--[ I]--x--[ I]--x... power (negative) lead this side. If a negative ground system, just swap the light side wire for power side wire. The I is the stripe on the diode. [ ] is diode plastic body. x is twisting the diode leads together or attaching the light & power (negative) lead at the end of diodes string end wire lead. If the bulb does not light up, swap the light & power wires to diode string leads. I would solder the leads for best connection. Apply some electrical tape around the diodes & connections to insulate from shorting to ground. The generic part number of the diodes are 6A1. Another supplier is Mouser with part number 621-6A1 available for 48 cents each. Mouser number is (800) 346-6873. No minimum order required.
