Jim, Here is a link going 2 pages back. It's not hard to do and John T, Bob and Bob M cover this almost everyday on one of forums around here. Like Lonzo said you may can get an adapter harness for it at JD at parts counter. I used to get those adapters for several of them but sometimes finding a parts person at counter that knows how to find those is lacking so you may have to go with Bob or John Ts methods of using a diode or resistors in line or otherwise the light won't work right and glow all the time. The adapter kits from JD came with the resistor made in them.

Thanks for your help, and the links were very helpful. I think I would be better off using the three wire model. I'm just tring to figure out if I can use my existing wireing harnees or if I need to purchase one or make one up.

You can use your existing harness if it's good yet but if JD has the adapter it will help make it easier. Sometimes I've had trouble with light glowing on one yet that I put a higher amp Delco 10SI or 12SI on and had to put another resistor inline to get indicator light to quit glowing all the time. It's normal for the light to glow a tad when you first start them but after reving it up to charge more and then idling down you'll see the light go out. The 3 wire is the way I usually go too unless they just want one wire and have a way to cut off battery so no drain. I don't know if this place has harnesses yet for your tractor too besides just JD but maybe worth checking.

When you talk about this adapter harness that you can get from John Deere, what does it include or look like. or is it just the plug in for the Delco alternator. I've seen those at the local parts stores. Thanks again for the help!

Yes, just the Delco plug and other wire to hook up with the resistor already made in adapter and connect to the Motorola plug. Like I said they probably don't have it in stock or know about anyway so just wire it up yourself with resistor like 3-5 watt instead or use Bob's diode or use a idiot light but I've always found the JDs needed the resistor so light wouldn't constantly glow. For more detailed explanations of why check out the tech info at Mad site.

not much to it, do use the right size of pulley on the GM alternator and most of the time the belt will fit, there is a adaptor plug you can us so that your gen light will keep working if you can't find a adaptor just hook up the battery wire to the altronator and uplug the charge light,
