Can anyone tell me the last serial #'s on the unstyled A's that had open fan shafts? Thanks.

Serial Number 414808 was the last A built with an open fan shaft and from what I understand is still exist. Serial Number 414809 was built with the fan shaft fully enclosed.

The serial number 414809 was the first change from an "open" to an enclosed fanshaft. However it is stated in J.R. Hobbs, "although records show that tractor number 414800 was built was the first 'A' to be built with the enclosed fanshaft(J.R.Hobbs ,THE JOHN DEERE UNSTYLED LETTER SERIES)." So, was it 414808 or 414799?

My source of information is "The Unstyled Model A" by Wes Malcolm. Wes spent a lot of time in doing research for his book and has kept a log of the open fan shaft A's and knows the location of 414808. But then again I am not going to argue with J.R.

Thanks for the help. We have a tractor that should have an open shaft. Now all I need to do is find a good used fan shaft.
If anyone knows where I can find one let me know. Thanks again
