I have a MF 1080 that I purchased and it has a few problems. The first is when the tractor is going down a hill the engine will not brake the tractor. You have to use the brakes to slow the tractor down. The engine starts fine does not use any oil and has Multi-power, but the rod is loose connecting the Multipower- you can move it easily where the rod enter the housing. Next the Aux hydraulics will not work. The lift works fine and the fluid is fine. I posted this on the general board and someone suggested try the Massey board. Thanks for the replies and answers.

Byron, I have learned from experience and reading the manual on my MF50 if the multipower is in low range it will not hold the tractor back. I found this to be true on my 285 that I used to have. It is in the design of the equipment. I also have to use the brakes to hold my tractor back while the multipower is in low range. When I put my machine in high range the engine will hold the tractor back on down hill grades. I think it was designed alittle backwards but you have to live with it. Get your multipower unit repaired and you will see what I am talking about. See ya..... ..Scott

Does your multipower work? There is a double outlet aux. pump that sits on top of the lift pump that runs your multipower and aux hydraulics.
Can be rebuilt if that's the problem, but you have to split the tractor. Good luck.

Before I get you on the wrong path, you should know that there can be several variations of hydraulic setups. Some multipower equiped tractors don't have aux.hydraulics. They have a smaller pump that only puts out 650 psi for the multipower.

I have a 245 with live pto. I bought a front pump kit before I got my manuals. According to my shop manual, I shouldn't have an aux, but I do. There is a 6 inch piece of hose connecting the input to the outlet on the left side cover. My configuration isn't shown in the manuals.

I believe my first post is probably correct if your hydraulic lines come out of the left side cover, but I thought I'd send this one too cause it cost me $500 for a front pump kit I don't need.
