Stupid questions...rotation of fan

OK...very stupid question.
I'm putting the MF135 Perkins Gas back together after dissassembly and painting, etc. I've replaced the fan and the alternator....but it looks like the fan needs to turn clockwise (facing from front) to blow air back across the engine...while the fins on the alternator look like they have to turn opposite to effectively blow air..
Two dumb questions then,
1. Does the engine rotate the fan clockwise..or have I got the fan on backwards?
2. Are the fins on an alternator actually supposed to provide air movement?

Feeling dumber by the day....thanks!

The big fan is correct ( and won't fit otherwise) even if you do turn it around it still blows the same way. just not as well. The alternator fan on most alternatord is made to suck air through the alternator from back to front.
