Question about lights....I have the manuals to my 1970 MF135 Perkins Gas...

Simple Question: Wiring diagrams for my 2 headlamp (attached to the hood) system shows 2 wires going to the lamps...tan (lo)and green (hi). The headlamps I have in my tractor has just 2 terminals....how does this work when 1 has to be grounded? Do the two wires (tan & green) go to a single side of the lamp?...or do I have the wrong sealed beam lamp?

I'm guessing if those 2 wires go to the same bulb, plus you need a ground, you've got the wrong bulb. There are some that have 3 terminals on them, and I have one laying around that came in a used light fixture I got from the bone yard.

Hi Bill, the light is most likely grounded by being bolted to the fender of your tractor,so no need for a ground wire.

Well, I tried to keep the question simple earlier.
The manual shows the aft work light in 'exploded' diagram. That diagram shows just what I have in mine.... That is.. one wire coming off one terminal of the sealed beam and the other terminal has a wire that is grounded to the housing of the light....which as you say is grounded to the frame.

My other 2 lights were cut away and thus I have only the wiring diagram to go by. Does anyone know if the front headlamps have the TAN and GREEN wires attached to just ONE side of the sealed beam?

Can't imagine that there is somehow MORE voltage being supplied in that way, because I suspect that they each are the same 12 volts.

So I'm guessing that the HI/LO sealed beams must have 3 terminals....1 for ground and 1 each for 2 separate filaments....giving twice the light....

But my bulbs each have 2 terminals.

Guess I'll call MF if no one on the board can tell me. Thanks for everyone's perspective.

Talked to a MF mechanic today and he said that sealed beams would have 2 terminals and that the 2 wires should be connected to one side of the light bulb with the switch taking care of the current.

I'm gonna try it tonight...let you know!

My head light switch is set up for Hi & Low but my lights are only single filiment ones (2 Terminals on the sealed beams) one terminal goes to a riveted conection on the shell for the ground (the wire is riveted to the housing) with a terminal to go to the bulb and the other one goes to the light switch on the dash. Lots of places to hook to on the light switch you need to test to figure which one you want to use cause it also controls the rear light in one posision both in another and just head lights too. It is a multi light switch. Mark H.

The third terminal is for another filiment opperated by 12 volts also in the sealed beam. When you hook 12 volts to it the bulb gets twice as brite and it uses a common ground between them. Mark H.
