Zane, read your article on hydraulic oil in the archives, great piece, but I'm still confused. I live in Florida, and want to use the right oil in my tranny, diff., and rear end. When you talk about 80-90 wt. oil, is this rear-end/gear oil, or something else? I found an oil at a local auto parts store that met the Ford mc134d specs but am still un-sure of what to use. I have no TSC near-by and am trying to figure out what to use. I want the best for my 8N. Thanks again for everyone's great help.

I was in the local Autozone store just last week and noticed they have 80/90 wt gear oil in quarts...2 1/2 gals and 5 gal buckets around 30 bucks for the 5 gals. I had found it at TSC earlier and it was about the same price.

My step dad was an old time Ford mechanic down in Texas. He always used 90 wt oil and added I quart of ATF. The ATF has additives that help preserve o rings and help with corrosion, rust etc. I recently ran into an old timer in Nebraska that told me the same thing. He had a tractor shop there and sold me some rear axle seals. So I use that recipe. FWIT

Last time I was in Florida back in the spring to see the Sun and Fun fly in it was hot as a two dollar pistol shooting uphill.

I would go with the 80/90W general purpose gear oil.

Heavier oil works better on systems that are not up to snuff. (some cylinder leakage) If your hydraulics are in good shape go with the Ford MC-134D. If not, go with 90W (SG-1) gear oil.
