Recently bought an excellent ring and pinion from a salvage yard for $145.

Before you sign up on a new tractor get to the stage where you have a hard number for the monthly payment. Then figure out how many hours a month you really use the tractor. If you have been doing it with an N you will probably find that the math doesn't work unless your time is worth neurosurgeon hourly rates.

Your mileage may vary

thats funny,,,,just last night i was talking to my unckle. he has a 40-41 9n that he has had for years. now he wants a new tractor. he told me he would trade in the 9n. i told him i would give him what they offer him for a trade in.i dont think the trade in price will be any thing near the true value of the tractor.we will see what happens, i might just end up with another 9n in the garage.

I understand how you feel about wanting a new tractor. There are lots of handy schtuff on newer ones, but for the love of god man, don't trade it in. They won't give ya nothin for it. Put it on the classified. Somebody will give it a good home I am sure.

I understand how you feel but she is part of the family and I will not sign off on taking her off of life support. Whatever you do if you have to let her go don't trade her in ,I am sure there is someone out there that would like to spend the time and money to restore it. Be careful what color your new one is there is a lot of new painted junk on the market.
Happy Tractoring

She's 60 years old, its against the law to abandon the elderly in most states. You could always get her a new ring and who cares what her 'pinion's are. Everyone is entitled to their own 'pinion. ;>) LOL

Bob,
I love old Ford "N" tractors. I own a 49 8N I receintly restored and re-built. (Runs & looks great) I have had it for about 24 years. I have gotten my moneies worth out of it time & time again. However, if I could afford it, I would buy me a new 30 to 40 hp with power sterring, independent hydraulics and PTO. (I would keep my 8N though.)Go for it! Rick (Ga)
