Went out to flush the bottom of my tank. The Book says do it every 100 hours. Did that and that went fine. Now...
Got to looking at the fuel line and I saw a stock filter in the fuel valve, an inline fuel filter in the fuel line, and no screen in the carb ell. So far I've removed one piece of steel tube and fitting, an inline fuel filter, 4 hose clamps, two pieces of rubber hose, a black pipe elbow, two brass fittings, a brass ell on the carb, and a piece of copper tubing with a fitting. I R&R'd the tank valve and put an ell with a screen in the carb.
The copper line had been rubbing against something at some point in time, twice actually, and was so thin that I pushed a dent in it with the end of a toothpick! If that had gone while I was running then I would have gas running over the head of the engine and maybe onto the manifold. Geez...
So I'll put on one steel tube with fittings like is suppose to be there which will replace a black pipe ell, two pieces of rubber hose, a fuel filter, 4 hose clamps, a piece of steel tube and fitting, a copper tube and fitting, and two brass fittings. Well it did take 58 years to get it in that shape!
Let's see did I forget anything? Nope that's it. Oh yeah, the ell with the screen cost $2.36.

How did you go about flushing your 8N gas tank?? Mine has some trash in it and about every 2-3 hours of operation I have to undo the fuel line and flush it out.

The tank valve has two positions. One position is "Main" (two turns open) and the other position is "Reserve" (full open). The "Main" tank is the top 9 gallons and the "Reserve" is the bottom 1 gallon. I flush the tank by removing the bowl and opening the valve full out. That will take gas out of the very bottom of the tank. I run at two turns open on the main.
Another tank valve is open right to "Main" and left to "Reserve." It's a 1/4 turn plug valve I suppose.
If you've been running at the full open position then try 2 turns and maybe the problem goes away. You won't run out of gas either. Do you have a screen above the sediment bowl in your tank valve? I believe the gas from the tank should flow through the square hole in the screen into the sediment bowl. I put it in that way and I don't have to remove the bowl gasket and screen (I think the book calls it a filter) to flush my tank.
